I Passed!

I was pleased to have passed the BCMSN exam using only this book. Trying to pass cheaply, I only wanted to buy one book. I was not dissapointed. There are a few errors in the text; however, it was apparent those were typos. The CDROM included with the book is badly broken. Other have mentioned the RIP = Rest In Peace problem, that was a clue. I took the clue and started searching. www.osborne.com, under downloads, has the Errata and fix for the CDROM!The text explains all the networking basics and builds up from there. The configuration examples assumes you know the basics (i.e. have passed the CCNA or have related hands-on experience). The book was missing a section that defines all the icons and conventions used; however, a CCNA or cisco web site user will have no trouble.

Despite the errors...worth the inverstment.

This is a great teaching(learning) book. Very few books get the point across as well as this one does. Aside from keeping your interest, as the book progressed from fundamentals to the later advanced chapters, I felt I was learning throughout the entire book. One of the best attributes of this book are the case studies. Each one builds upon the last until you have built and programmed a complex campus network. I was delighted as the lights went on with each progressive insight. I was less than happy with the CD and the answers to the study questions, and feel sorry for the authors as the editing staff did a poor job of catching mistakes. There is an errata sheet on the publisher's website, and it did address the errors. I am told a second edition will address these issues. By the way, I passed the exam first try with a 792. Not my greatest score, but also not squeaking by either. I recommend this book despite the errors.

In-Depth Complete CCNP Coverage

I think this book is excellent. The coverage is indepth and easier to read than any other book on the subject. I found that the case studies were very realistic. I am a consultant and we have to be accurate and complete in our work for customers. Thus I take offense at the Man from Germany's comments regarding these areas. I found an update for the test that fixes all the problems on the publishers site so this book is excellent with that fix applied!

Excellent and very helpful.

As part of the CCNP certification you have to take severaltest, BCMSN is one of those tests. Put together by experts in thefield this book covers the course topics as well as any I have seen so far. The authors make sure they have detailed the information for you so that you have the best chance of passing the exam. This 500 plus page wealth of information is packed with examples of how to connect campus networks, multicast configurations and multicast routing configurations. Leaving no objective unturned the authors make short work of the exam. Also covered are the topics such as layer 2 and 3 configurations, spanning tree, switching hardware, VLAN, classful and classless routing, interior and exterior routing protocols as well as the appendix covering the OSI model. Overall you should have everything you need to pass the exam.As with many other books like this there is a cd-rom with over 200 practice questions to help in your studies. The exam software is created by NETCERTS, which is a premier training and education website for Cisco Certification...this may be the one book you're looking for.

Excellent Book!

I received this book when it first came out and having took the BCMSN course I have to say that this book is incredible and now I wish I had not wasted all that money on the course. Who ever came up with this 'course companion' idea is a genius. I was able to use this book as a technical reference at work AND it helped me pass the test and I hope to be a CCNP soon with the help of the other books in this series.
