Avatar: The Last Airbender – Team Avatar Tales (Sneak Peek Stories of Team Avatar)

Avatar: The Last Airbender—Team Avatar Tales tells multiple stories about Team Avatar and their friends during the show and books. I will admit that the artwork was not my favorite. I like the original look of all the characters. I will admit the scarecrow story was cute, mainly because they had The Peanuts kind of look to it. Overall, the art didn’t wow me, even the cover. (The cover did have the Team Avatar characters in a nice pose on Appa’s back.) But I am willing to overlook that for the story and character interactions. That is what drew me to the series, to begin with. “Rebound” begins after Mai leaves Zuko and when her family moves into Aunt Mura’s flower shop. When Kei Lo enters the flower shop, Aunt Mura has Mai assist him. Kei Lo orders a bouquet for Mai and asks her on a date. Mai decides to go out with him because she’s bored. Surprisingly, Mai smiles twice during their date. Kei Lo reveals a secret meeting led by Mai’s father, Ukano. Ukano attempts to convince Mai to join them in their fight to dethrone Zuko and put Ozai back on the throne. Mai believes Ukano should be content and grateful for the position Zuko offered him. Mai is shocked to discover that Ukano has Tom-Tom. Mai takes Tom-Tom and refuses to participate in Ukano’s destructive fantasy. She fights her way out, including knocking Kei Lo out of her way, even though Kei Lo insists he likes her for real. It appears that Mai still can’t get over her old relationship with Zuko. “The Substitute” shows Aang, Katara, and Sokka hiding from the Fire Nation in Fire Nation outfits. Sokka will “die” without snacks, so he puts on a fake mustache to walk into town and buy some. It’s hilarious how Katara calls Sokka a weirdo when he puts on the mustache. Two people stop Sokka in town, asking if he is the teacher they’ve been looking to hire. Sokka’s expectations about how lovely the children will be don’t fit reality. The children steal and eat all of Sokka’s snacks. Sokka decides to teach them how to sword fight. While teaching them, Sokka’s mustache falls off his lips. The children promise to keep his secret if he buys them snacks. Sokka is praised by the parents for how quiet their children are. When Sokka reunites with Aang and Katara, he passes out. “Shells” takes place inside a shop with Sokka and Suki. Sokka nearly gets ripped off by paying too much for an average paint-colored shell. A young lady enters the store but is insulted by the two store owners, insisting she is a fake collector. Suki stands up for the lady and kicks their butts. Sokka tried to warn them, but they wouldn’t listen. Suki is forced to resort to her Chi-blocking on the firebender. After the shells catch fire, Sokka and Suki leave the store to find the young lady who was bullied. Sokka and Suki introduce themselves to the young lady, Giya. Giya asks where Suki has learned to fight. Once Suki mentions being a Kyoshi Warrior, Giya recognizes her as one of the Kyoshi Warriors who guards Fire Lord Zuko’s palace. Giya is uncertain about Suki’s offer to learn some moves to defend herself. Giya nearly leaves until Suki narrates a story about there being jerks on Kyoshi Island who would harass women. Avatar Kyoshi herself trained these ordinary women to become the first Kyoshi Warriors. Giya takes Suki's offer and brings some female friends to train as Kyoshi Warriors. “Sokka’s Poem” mentions all the things that he can do. He’s on the lookout while Aang, Katara, Zuko, Toph, Appa, and Momo all sleep. “Toph and The Boulder” begins with Toph strolling through town until she hears The Boulder’s crying and his pet crococat, The Pebble, meowing. The Boulder is having issues with The Pebble’s insatiable appetite. Toph suggests he takes him to the Vet, but that word is forbidden. The Boulder feeds The Pebble various foods, but it doesn’t matter. The Pebble eats them all and then disappears. Toph solves the mystery of the missing crococat and why The Pebble ate so much—she was pregnant. The Pebble gives bi
