Tracing four decades of Asterix

A delightful collection of Asterix short srories from 1962 to 2003 , many having been printed in the French magazine Pilote , "the thinking person's comic strip magazine" Each strip is preceeded by a short essay explaining how it was created. None of these stories have appeared in English before. It is interesting to trace the development of Asterix through these panels. I particularly like the older panels from the 1960's and 70's , from Pilote magazine.

Well pleased

I have always loved Asterix and Obelix and so when I heard about the new book I had to get it. The stories are quite short but very interesting to read. For each story there is a small summary about how each was created and where it was first seen, so that you can learn some background information about the story and the authors. The only sad thing for me was that each story is so short, but as you have 15 or so stories it makes up for that fact. Hope you enjoy it was well.

Very entertaining collector's item

As an avid Asterix fan since childhood, I am always excited when a new Asterix adventure comes out, although I have to admit since the last one (Asterix and the Actress) this time around I was very apprehensive. I must say, however, I was quite pleasantly surprised. This is a collection of short stories of previously published (and unpublished) ideas. All very entertaining and humorous with the usual signature sharp wit. If you are an Asterix fan and collector of his adventures, you will definitely want this book, it's worth it! if you are unfamiliar with Asterix, this is probably not the best place to start, you are better off getting one of the classic adventures that are being reprinted now.

Great Short Stories

First I need to start off by saying that I am a big fan of the Asterix series. And I found these stories very entertaining. Though first published in English in 2003. This set of stories was originally published in French in 1996. And was a huge success. The book contains fourteen tales, including: The day Asterix and Oblix were born; How Oblix goes back to school; Fashion in Ancient Gaul; How Dogmatix helps the village cockerel win a duel; How Dogmatix is adopted as a Roman mascot; Asterix as you have never seen him before; Obelix's adventures under the mistletoe; The bid for the first Gaulish Olympics; The story of the creation of Asterix; The family tree of Obelix; and much more. Pick up this fun and book.

Great Short Stories.

Let me start off by saying that I am a big Asterix fan. So it should come as no suprise that I loved this book. :) Though this is a First edition 2003 publication, it was originally released in French in 1996.This book contains fourteen short stories including tales of: The day Asterix and Obleix were born; How Oblix goes back to school; Fashion in Ancient Gaul; How Dogmatix helps the village cockeral win a duel; How Dogmatix is adopted as a Roman mascot; Asterix as you've never seen him before; Obleix's adventures under the mistletoe; The bid for the very first Gaulish Olympics; The birth of an idea - the story of the creation of Asterix, and much more. I especially like seeing Oblix's family tree branching to the modern day. An enjoyable read.
