Laurey Bright does another excellent job of presenting a realistic portrayal of a marriage and its problems. Jade and Magnus Riordan had begun their married life with financial and family problems--Magnus' father had died and left a demanding and invalid wife, three younger and difficult teen-agers, and large but struggling sheep and cattle farms in New Zealand to be maintained. These and other stresses became too much for Jade, resulting in a nervous breakdown for her and a resulting 2-year stay in a mental-care facility. She was also left with a spotty memory, unable to recall much of the last three years. The real story for Jade and Magnus begins as Jade emerges from the institution, ready to resume her life with her husband but finding many difficulties to overcome.Laurey Bright does an excellent job of characterization, creating realistic, likable, and empathetic characters in an interesting setting and intrigueing plot. Her writing style is easy to read and readily draws you into her story. She has drawn a realistic portrayal of a woman trying to resume her life and marriage after a traumatic interruption.
