A rewarding HEA .....

An Arranged Marriage by Susan Fox Harlequin Romance #3590 - January 2000 Blue Sumner didn't believe in love. Love was something he'd never known, growing up as a motherless boy with a father who drifted and drank. He grew up mostly with strangers; having no one to mend his scraps and cuts. His life took a sudden turn when the ranch he toiled his blood and sweat into produced oil. He figures his new wealth puts him on a footing to find a wife. Allison Lancaster came to live with her Aunt Petula when she was orphaned as a girl. Though she has her own trust fund from her parents, she's always lived off the generosity of her Aunt. Her Uncle's bank is in trouble when Allison's college friend embezzles large sums. Her Uncle covets Blue's wealth and when Blue expresses an interest in Allison, good ole Uncle Charles offers her for sale. Or so that's how Allison feels, that's she's being sold to save her Uncle's bank. But Blue doesn't offer any guarantees that he'll help Charles if Allison marries him, yet she marries him anyway. She discovers that there's alot of honour in Blue and a tenderness. She falls in love with him, and knows he feels the same if only he can get over his childhood fears of abondonment. This story opens with Blue's point of view, which is a lovely change from other books by Ms. Fox. I like how we come to see Blue through his childhood memories and that Allison can sense what really holds Blue back from a loving relationship. Blue feels badly that Allison seems forced into marrying him, yet he can't let her go, she's everything he's ever wanted. I love how their love evolves slowly. Allison and Blue make a wonderful couple and I'm glad that they have their HEA.

Arranging Love

Back cover reads: Blackmail Bride Blue Sumner was a self-made man who had everything money could buy. What he craved was a wife and children, and the respectability his tough upbringing had denied him... Allison Lancaster was a banker's daughter--and perfect wife material! Her family wanted Blue's money as much as he coveted their social standing. A wedding of convenience was arranged...and it was only when Blue kissed his new bride that both recognized a dizzy attraction that could be love! This is such a tender story. Blue is a character your heart goes out to. Blue hides his feelings deep inside, denying them every time they come to surface. He denies himself the ability to love and be loved. He has wanted to be with Allison since he saw her. While he was a poor man he felt he didn't deserve her, but when he is finally a rich man, he figures that the only way to attain Allison is to pay for her. Allison is reluctant to marry, not because she thinks him less of a person than she is, but because she wishes to marry for love. Allison is a very patient and caring person, though. She is willing to work the marriage out, hoping that they can one day love each other, as she has already started to care deeply for Blue. Allison slowly tries to get Blue to reveal bits of himself, trying to see into the man. She tries to understand why he does or react the way he does. Blue on the other hand, believes that there can never be any love shared between the two. He tries hard to fight his growing attraction to Allison, trying to have her believe that he detest her. Too late he realizes that the walls he had placed around his heart are slowly falling. Will it be too late, though, to save whatever feelings Allison had for him? Susan Fox writes another superb story! Her characters are very human and ones you feel a connection to. They have suffered and lived to tell the story. Blue and Allison are no different, they are both strong characters who are overcoming their past with the strength they receive from themselves and each other.

Susan Fox writes a powerful love story.

Susan Fox writes powerful, tortured, alpha males and women who on the surface appear soft, but as you move beyond the surface you find a steel inner core. In An Arranged Marriage, Blue Sumner is a man who wasn't always rich. It's his humble beginnings that sculpt him. He has an offer for Allison Lancaster, who was born with the proverbial silver spoon, a spoon that's beginning to tarnish. Marry him and he'll do what he can to re-polish her family's fortune. Her relatives are all for the match. Allison is pushed and pulled from all directions, especially from her heart which sees more in Blue than he realizes. A marriage of convenience that ends up being a love of a lifetime.
