One of the funniest books that I ever read

This is a collection of essays, similar to the ones produced by Erma Bombeck, about everyday life. In this case, they are written by someone who feels a little out of step with the world, not quite getting the rhythm, even when she'd like to. I know the feeling well. Mary Z. Gray meditates upon the length of time that it takes objects to become invisible (the earrings you left next to the telephone, say.), the problems of wanting dresser scarfs and other presently unfashionable items, not understanding at first that that inexpensive hotel usually rents by the hour, the real cost of bargains, and the mysteries of symbolic signs, not to mention that famous bird, the Ohio Bluetip. A very enjoyable work.
