A Question of Destiny

A Question of Destiny is a book about a 14-year old boy named Dan. Dan Stratton's father is running for president and stresses "using man's resources on man, not machines." His biggest issue was the United States space program. One day Dan uses one of his dad's advisors, David Greer's, calculator for his Geometry homework and he notices some strange and unusual symbols. When Dan discovers false information in the file of David Greer, he confronts him. When he confronts Greer he learns that the advisor is from another world. His role on Earth is to insure that Dan's father wins the election, preventing humans from prematurely entering the space race. Greer convinces Dan and his friend Carla to help him sabotage a government project in order to help the president's space program. A Question of Destiny is a fairly good book but not great. I would recommend this book to teenagers who like science and understand it. If you don't understand science this book would be difficult to understand. I believe the book, A Question of Destiny, is hard to understand. I don't like how the writer did not describe the plan of David Greer thoroughly. David Greer was placed on Earth from a different planet to prevent the humans from prematurely entering the space race. I don't understand how because the author doesn't describe this in detail. Tjis made the entire plot of David Greer confusing. I do like the characters in this story. Dan Stratton is a fourteen year old boy. His father is running fro president and he is often troubled in school. His best friend, Carla Brenner, is also a main character. She plays a big role because her mother is part of the program so she gets inside information. David Greer is a male of a very unique species. He has bat like wings but can still be perfectly normal. These characters are very interesting and make the book fun to read. Lastly I like the setting in this book. This book takes place mostly in Washington D.C. because Dan's father is running for president. This book's time period is in the present time. The setting makes the story interesting by adding interesting locations and an understandable time period. One of the meeting points when Dan first describes the situation to Carla is at the Washington monument. I just thought that was cool. A Question of Destiny is a very interesting read but can he difficult to understand. The author doesn't describe the scientific part that well making the plot kind of confusing. Although it is confusing, the characters and setting still make the book interesting. I would recommend this book to teenagers who like science and understand it. -Byron N.

A great book for mystery-lovers.

This book is about how Dan, a 14-year old, lives with politics, since his dad is a senator running for president. But the fun part about this book is that the main plot is a mystery, not about politics. Dan is concerned about David Greer, a staff of Dan's dad's group. One day Dan finds out he forgot his calculator in his school locker, so to do his math homework, he goes to his father's study while his dad's meeting is going on in the living room. He can't find his dad's calculator, so he borrows the calculator left on the corner of the desk. He realizes it's Greer's calculator- he saw Greer holding it a couple of times. On the calculator, he finds some unusual symbols, on which he researches on and finds that it doesn't match any language or code. He realizes- David Greer might not be what he seems.A great book for mystery-lovers.
