A Fun & Sweet Inspirational Western

I love a good love story and I love a good western. I've spent the past 2 days entrenched in both. A Kiss for Cade, written by Lori Copeland.....need I say more. Her name alone says that this is a good book. I haven't read all 95 books that Lori has written, but of those that I have read....I've not been disappointed. A Kiss for Cade was first released as The Courtship of Cade Kolby in the general market. Lori has updated the text to reflect her switch to the Christian publishing arena, making this her 34th CBA title. This was a quick, easy read. I was laughing and crying throughout the story. It opens with Zoe, a widowed storekeeper, being left to watch over her best friend's children after the fever take both parents. Zoe is charged with sending word to their uncle to come and settle the affairs of his sister and decide where her children will live. It is Zoe's heart desire to keep the children herself. But Cade has other plans. Cade left Winterborn, Kansas, 15 years earlier, leaving behind his sister and parents for the life of a bounty hunter. He left to make his fortune...planning to someday return to the love of his life, Zoe. Weeks turned into months and months into years and he never returned. Zoe waited, but after Cade never came back for her, she got on with her life...while struggling to put her heartache of a love lost behind her. Now her heart is threatened when old memories come back as she watches the children fall in love with their Uncle Cade. He lets down his guard and allows the children to melt away years of hardness. He is the perfect uncle allowing little girls to put ribbons in his hair and a scary "pet" on his chest. He teaches the boys how to handle a gun, but stresses that it's only for hunting for food. He proves he's man enough to hunt down the bad guys and wear an apron. And then there is the townfolk....they have their own ideas about what is best for the children....and Zoe and Cade for that matter. They set a plan in action and are determined to carry it out. I closed the book tonight having gone through just about every emotion you want to experience while reading. Lori has you reading the words just like little Missy would have said them, turning her "r's" into "w". I cried when Holly had to finish Zoe's prayer for Cade's safety and I was smiling when I turned the last page. My words to myself were...."Now that was a good book". I want to thank Rebeca Seitz from Glass Road Public Relations for asking me to review this book for her....it was a huge treat. [...]

a terrific inspirational historical romance

In 1885 in Winterborn, Kansas John and Addy die from a disease leaving behind four small children. Addy's bounty hunter brother Cade Kolby comes home to pay his respects to his sister and deal with his orphaned nieces and nephews. Fifteen years he has stayed away, but the youngsters do not frighten him much compared with seeing Widow Zoe Bradshaw whom he loved and left anyway. Zoe is caring for his kin as if they are hers. When Cade arrives, she makes it clear he is not wanted by her or his family. However, the townsfolk argue the kids come first and they need parents. They want the couple married. However as each of the two adults struggle with their past, a gunslinger arrives with one objective kill Cade anyway he can, which means a beautiful fiery redhead and children are expendable. A Kiss for Cade is a terrific inspirational historical romance starring a community that believes it takes a town with caring parents to raise children. Zoe is a strong woman who can handle anything including raising four orphans, moving on from the senseless murder of her kind spouse and burying her best friend since childhood; anything except the return of Cade. He has a chance for redemption with her and the kids if he takes it. Reminiscent of the Glen Ford movie The Fastest Gun in the West, fans will enjoy this fun matchmaking Americana as a forgiving town encourages second chances. Harriet Klausner

A Sweet and Rugged Western Romance

Lori Copeland's latest novel, "A Kiss For Cade", is the tender story of a man who left home and the woman he loved to pursue a career as a bounty hunter. When Cade Kolby returns home after 15 years pursuing the Most Wanted of the Wild West, it is to determine the fate of the four children left behind by his recently deceased sister. Part of the problem is that his former love (who also happens to be his sister's best friend), Zoe Bradshaw, wants to raise the children but can't afford to do it. I have just begun reading this book and I know that eventually Cade will settle down with Zoe as he promised 15 years earlier and they will raise his sister's children together, but the fun of this read is being there while it happens. There are many touching and humorous exchanges between the various characters in this western historical romance. The plot is carefully woven with scenes that are so well crafted as to appear random. The dialogue is true to what I know of this point in history, and it made me laugh often as the characters in the story continue to speak prophetically of the outcome for this leading man and his lady. Lori Copeland has written a beautiful book that I recommend to anyone who enjoys tales of the old West and romance. This is my favorite Lori Copeland novel to date!
