100 Must-Read Classic Novels

Although I had my own opinions regarding the 100 must-read novels, I was interested in hearing someone else's view. I enjoyed the book in that it shared some of my all-time favorites as well as those I had not included. It's a nice addition to my library.

First rate recommendations of classic fiction for all libraries

As the one other reviewer here is being unkind enough to ruin the author's chances of selling this book by giving it a one star review when her problem seems to be that the product description is insufficient for her needs, I thought I'd redress the balance - don;t take it out on the author, lady ! This book is a handy pocket-size guide to 100 'classic' novels - by which is meant masterpieces of form of universal appeal - written by one of Britain's finest non-fiction writers. Nick Rennison is author of the bestselling 'Bloosmbury Good Reading Guide' and the linchpin of the '100 Must Reads' series, expert on all forms of literature (I know, as I;ve worked in bookselling and reviewing for 23 years and he has the most wide-ranging and deep knowledge of books I've encountered) and reviewer for London's 'Sunday Times'. The book includes a terse, witty, irreverent but thoughtful introduction that discusses what a classic is, followed by descriptions of 100 famous books, detailing plot, characters and thier authors' place in the world of literature. Each mini-essay is followed by 'read on' suggestions recommending several hundred other titles. Simply, one of the best (and best value) books you could wish to buy on classic fiction, by a man who really knows his stuff.
