A collection of short stories and essays (nine in all), written with heart and humor by a native of a small town in the wheatlands of Kansas. All are based on fact but adapted for fiction. "Aunt Effie's Driving Lesson" is the hilarious tale of what happens when the author's aunt finds herself in a position where she has no choice except to get into the driver's seat. "Story Man," an affectionate salute to the author's grandfather, recounts his childhood memories of an Indian reservation. "Our Hero" is set on a mid-century wheat farm, as is "Oz Revisited." These short stories are based on experiences of the author's mother, although not told from her point of view. The remaining essays are more personal.
