In 1880 The Village of Plugville on the banks of the Saint Croix River needed a school teacher for a hundred students. A challenge for any teacher but Elizabeth accepted the call and would do her best. Just out of teachers college and eager to start her journey she boards a riverboat with her future at stake. The children were eager and willing to learn and the village of Plugville did their best but times were tough. At the edge of the frontier with hot humid summers and freezing cold winters, a one room school house wasn't much to work with.
