Worthwhile abridged version

Not only is the abridged version perfect for about a third grade reading level, but the quality of this binding is excellent. I definitely recommend the "Classic Starts" series if you are looking for good abridged classics.

Best Book Ever!!!!

I got this book for my 10th birthday, and I loved it! I read it to my little sister, and she loved it too. now we are reading The Secret Garden from the same series. I don't care what other people think of this series I think it is good and all kids who love to read classics should try it.

Excellent!

I'm 52 yo. I read this book for the first time when I was 9, in the Portuguese version. Now I bought this pearl of literature to my young daughter. She is 14 and speaks English very well. She already read the entire Harry Potter saga and other books, like The Man and The Sea, etc. The classic story The Swiss Family Robinson and other books I received by the same order will be entertaining and important to learn more and more English. I'll expect to buy many other titles as soon as possible.

The Swiss Family Robinson

This book, full of adventure, danger, and most of all, exciting discoveries and dangerous endeavors, will capture your imagination immediately. Taken from their father's journal, this exciting book will engage you. A family of four boys, a mother & a father were shipwrecked on a desolate island w/absolutely no other people except themselves. Trying to survive in this dangerous wilderness is quite a job. Setting up several plantations, discovering giant skeletons, having an encounter w/a lion and lioness... these are only a few of the many exciting adventures they have. This book I recommend for boys ages 8 and up. Girls may not be as interested as there are few female characters. I like reading this long book because of all the adventures in it. (Be sure to read the unabridged edition.) Like to read? Then you will like this book. -G.H.P. 10 years

The Swiss Family Robinson

Chris Tait retold The Swiss Family Robinson from the original book written by Johann David. He started the book great and strong but it died down in the middle. To me the book is an Adventure. In some parts of the book it was very repetitive. In other parts of the book it was very exciting. The Swiss Family Robinson was a book about a family out at sea until there boat crashed. The Robinsons family made it to the island and started to build a house in the trees to be safe from animals. They rescued all the animals on the boat and found other animals to breed. The boys explored their new home to see what was ahead for them. They lived on the island for thirteen years finding crops and growing them. Until the eldest son was exploring on the other side of the island and found a woman. Her ship wreaked and also got to the island. She was the first person they had seen in thirteen years. When a ship came for her the Robison family was happy to see other people but the father and the mother did not want to leave their island, so the next day the told the kids they wanted to stay. To their surprise the kids wanted to stay home too. Chris Tait seemed to keep on repeating the same things over again, one day a pack of wolves comes and try's to eat them and the next time a bear comes. The family kept on exploring and finding food there was not really any excitement in the book. I really like the endings it was strong to a point were you were not left with any questions. The Swiss Family Robinson was a good book for kids that are 9 or 10 years old.
