PRAY! Social justice activitist, young adult ministry social butterflies, and every other Christian

I wish I could give a copy of The Soul of the Apostolate to every "social justice" priest and layperson that I know. And the same with the folks who run around making nice, pretty ministries but aren't spending time with the Lord. This book brought me back to GOD. Oh, to know that the author struggled much in the same way that I have. Oh, to know, that like many young folks, I was seeking my identity in various groups, both secular and spiritual. The truth is, my identity is as a child of GOD. This book gives me practical information on how to grow as a Christian. (and to put my "clubs" waaay below GOD, my marriage, etc) And the footnotes are also very helpful. I highly recommend this book to ALL Christians seeking GOD. GOD BLESS!!!!

A deeply insightful guide for those minister to others.

Even though this book was written more than half a century ago, the advice it gives to priests and those who serve God's people are still as valid today as they were then. Nowadays we're always busy doing, but we should surely stop to ask ourselves just what we are achieving. In this beautifully written work Dom Chautard lays out the necessity of a deep relationship with God in order that our work may truly have an impact on the world. He lays out guidelines that will help the reader lead a more reflective and therefore effective life.

this is one of the finest books on the interior life. other than scripture especially the new testament and gospels there are about five works everyone should read and live on the interior life -- this being one of the very best.

Well worth the price

Looking for a balanced, easily understood (mind, this doesn't mean easily applied, but if you're considering buying this book, you probably know or suspect that already!) how-to manual on developing a strong prayer life? This is the book for you! Although written by a Catholic for a Catholic audience, everyone who strives to grow in prayer can learn something from here. Replete with scriptural and saintly wisdom (clearly referenced with footnotes), the book shows how a soul grows ever closer to God and more like our Lord Jesus Christ as his/her interior life develops. It also deals with the stages of that development and the true signs of growth that one can watch for. I found it very helpful in understanding many aspects of scripture. I also found a number of simple spiritual exercises which I could apply immediately to my life and which have made me understand on an inexplicably deep level how truly merciful God is to all of us and how truly helpless we are without Him. I could ramble on at length, but I will stop here and just say BUY THIS BOOK!

Prayer first, and action... in hundredth place

The book is a warm antidote for those earnest Christians who work so very hard for our Lord, but spend less than 10 minutes per day in mental prayer with him. Both the social justice activist and pro-life champion will find solace with Chautard, and a way to reach a new level of closeness with Christ. Ultimately they will see more fruitfulness in their works if the apply the lessons in the book. The picture of love overflowing into piety has stayed with me for months afterward.
