A story About two girls

A Story About Two Girls The Potlatch Family is about Plum Longor who always had to sit next to Mildred Schultz on the bus who is an obese girl. Plum never liked Mildred, but Mildred always thought that Plum was her best friend and her only friend. No one liked Plum because her skin was darker than everyone else's and her father was a drunk. One day Plum's brother, Simon, came from the war and everyone thought he was dead. He had lost his eye in the war and the doctors gave him a glass eye, but he still couldn't see from that eye. Everyone was really excited about Simon coming home and they decided to have a potlatch (which is a dinner and it's every week for four weeks) to celebrate. Plum's mom and dad wanted her to invite Mildred, but she didn't want to because everyone would think that Plum is friends with a fat girl. Her grandma finally convinced her into inviting Mildred. After the first two potlatches, Plum and Mildred started becoming good friends and Plum realized that just because someone is fat, doesn't mean you can't hang out with them. I really liked this book because it teaches you that if someone is a different skin color than you, it doesn't mean you can't be friends with them. Never judge a person from the outside because if they're ugly, they could be nice and if they're pretty, they could be mean and that's what really counts. If you've read The Orphan Train, you'll probably like this one too because they both teach you that you can't judge a person from the way they look. By: Prabhleen
