The New York Years

Ashkan Sahihi (b. Tehran, Iran, 1963; lives and works in Berlin) is a photographer whose work always articulates a direct relation to his current place of residence. After his last project, Die Berlinerin (2015), for which he photographed 375 women, he now unlocks his archive and presents pictures from his New York years. Sahihi lived in the metropolis from 1987 until 2014, working for renowned periodicals including the New York Times Magazine, the New Yorker, and Vogue. In addition to global superstars of the arts scene like Cindy Sherman, Yoko Ono, Jeff Koons, and Robert Longo, Sahihi portrayed leading actors like Dennis Hopper and Willem Dafoe, literary luminaries like Paul Auster and Siri Hustvedt, and legendary musicians like John Cage, Solange, and Philip Glass.
