Ultra-portable tablet of 205 daily NYT crossword puzzles from 2000

This travel-sized collection features 205 New York Times daily crossword puzzles originally printed between March 27 and December 30, 2000. The puzzles are clustered into six groups by increasing order of difficulty from Monday to Saturday. One approximately 3" x 3" puzzle grid and its accompanying clues appear on each page and the answers are collected in the back. Most travel-sized NYT collections (the "Little Book/Luxe Book of Crosswords" series) have a spiral binding with thicker paper, and concentrate on early-week puzzles. This "Little Flip Book" format is a tablet of thin, tear-off sheets enclosed within a sturdy cardboard flip-open cover. It measures approximately 7" x 5", so it takes up less room in a bag and less room to use, plus the pages are easily detached. Buy this "Flip Book" format for a more portable, disposable book of crosswords. Buy the "Little/Luxe Book" format if you like to work on a puzzle, shelve it, and then continue it later. I hope that St. Martin's press offers more NYT puzzle collections in each format.

Puzzles for Individual or Group Fun

I bought this book as an admission that I am addicted to the morning crossword puzzles in the Washington Post Express. Had to have one to do during the evening commute like the one I finished that morning. Will Shortz's collection scratched that itch and went a little further. First, it was an unanticipated test of my character to finish a puzzle without peeking at the answers on the back of each page. That whole "not available until tomorrow" aspect of newspaper crosswords had been keeping me from facing my urge for immediate gratification. The things we learn about ourselves. Partially to keep myself honest, I began doing the puzzles at night with my wife, Amy. This was fun, too. We passed the book back and forth and read clues to each other. And we learned to both look at the grid instead of one of us just hiding under the covers listening to clues. It didn't help for the one hiding to claim he was just trying to keep himself from looking at the answers. We've also enjoyed these puzzles as a family. During a particularly long wait for pancakes at IHOP one Saturday, I tore several puzzles out of the book--it is designed for this--and handed them out to Amy and the kids. We worked on them, asked each other for help, and swapped puzzles when we got stuck. This became loud, friendly family fun. It also irritated the IHOP staff. But given the wait, this seemed fair. Buy the book, because nobody's going to loan it to you. And you can have a lot of fun with it. This is great

I love this crossword book. It starts with Monday crosswords and ranges all the way to the end of the week by the end of the book. So, it starts off not as challenging (which is perfect for me since I am a beginner when it comes to the New York Times Crosswords), and by the end of the book I should be warmed up for the the more challenging ones. My only complaint: I ordered the Little Black and White book also and love that it is spiral bound. I wish this one were too, then I would have given it 5 stars.
