The Anglo Saxon Doctrine of Freedom

England was a Christian nation. The Anglo Saxons did not immediately embraced Christianity; instead they learned Latin and began their study of the bible, in particular the Old Testament books of exodus, Deuteronomy, Leviticus, and Ezra. The Anglo Saxon did not write down their laws, instead they memorized them and passed the code along by memory from one generation to another. As the Anglo Saxon scholars read the Bible they were surprised that their law was contained in the writings of the Bible. They identified with the Hebrew code or law and felt it was the superior law. The government of Moses matched closed with the government doctrines, structures, and principles of the Anglo Saxons. The Anglo Saxon influence extended to multiple races: Lowland Scotch, Normans, Dutch, Norwegians, Swedes, German, Dutch, and Franks.The next king, King Alfred studied the writings of Boethius the Roman scholar. King Alfred rejected the Christian doctrine of predestination believing God had infinite foresight and all knowledge. The doctrine of predestination failed completely against free will and knowledge as the governing principles of God and his interactions with man. In 1066, King Alfred requested the help of William the Conquer from Normandy, France. William advocated Roman law. William helped established the commonwealth of freeman in England claiming each had certain inalienable rights, rights so strong that no government could deprive Freemen from these powers; Anglo Saxon doctrine specifically limited power granted to a ruler, incompetent rulers could be removed from power by the general assembly (Witenagemot); no law or taxation could done without authorization of the general assembly, a representative vote; these representatives came to power through free elections. The Anglo Saxons cherished self government, justice and reparations for the victim, religious tolerance and separation between church and state. King Alfred championed the Anglo Saxon ideals. After William, one of the descending reigning kings of England was a man named King John, seven-line from William. During King John's reign, in 1215 AD, the Magna Carter was signed. The Magna Carter restored many of the Anglo Saxon rights and England entered into the golden age of the Anglo Saxon and specifically restored the right of no taxation without representation.King Henry VIII decided to liberate the people from the Roman Papacy. In 1547 Edward VI adopted Protestantism. In 1553, Queen Mary forced England back to Catholicism. Queen Elizabeth I restored the independent Church of England under protestant faith.Queen Mary of Scotts requested asylum from Queen Elizabeth and was granted it. Queen Mary had a son name James I. 1. By Divine mandate, all people have certain inalienable rights mainly the right to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness. The sovereignty of a nation is vested in the people. The source of sovereignty is held by the people and when the powers are granted by the people too the rulers, they must be limited in scope. The rulers do not have a God given right to expand their powers beyond the limited scope established by the people meaning no law or taxation creation should occur without representation which is the voice of the people.2. No Nation can violate the inalienable rights of its people without facing the judgment of God. The principle of freedom is based on liberty. Slavery does not exist except in the minds of those who are slaves. A slave must believe they can be controlled, deprived, and willfully submit too oppression. Slavery is contrary transfers sovereignty of the people too their masters willfully. All people have certain inalienable rights which can never be taken away, unless they willfully inactivate these rights. For example, in many states, slave masters could not kill their slaves. Slaves had a right to life.3. A sovereign nation should be governed by a written constitution which careful defines separation of power. Foremost in importance is the legislative body creates law. Legislatures are employed by the people through free elections. Free elected representatives represent the interest of the people or voted out next election.4. The constitution should clearly set forth the fundamental rights of the people. Madison wisely understood the need to enumerate the right of the people in the Bill of Rights. The first eight were written by Madison too protect fundamental rights of the individual: freedom of religion, press, speech, right to own arms, due process of the law, equal protection of the law, a fair trial, protection against self incrimination, habeas corpus, right to counsel, too cross examine their accusers, a speedy trial, a right to a jury when serious charges a filed, reasonable bail, protection against cruel and usual punishment, and narrowly defined interpretation and application of treason. The legislative body is the only power capable of declaring war. War debts should be paid immediately. War should be defensive and war powers held temporarily.
