While Robert is given the choice of different fates in the alternate realities, he crosses the temporal threshold only when he matures enough to accept his destiny, no matter what. At the end of this fast-paced novel, filled with provocative ideas, well-defined characters, and offbeat dialogue hovers the question 'What do we sacrifice to find happiness?'
