Very Necessary in your Spiritual Library

This book illustrated and gave names to practices I have done all of my life, but had no name for it. Immediately, after reading the first chapter, I had to call my friends and share the descriptions and vocabulary of this book. A must read.

Happiness: "Idiot's Guide" or "Dummies"?

The psychology of happiness can now officially claim to be a legitimate science: both the "Complete Idiot's Guide" and the "Dummies" series have recently published a book on this topic. But which one should you choose? The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Psychology of Happiness (Complete Idiot's Guide to) gives the better and the most up-to-date overview of the field of positive psychology (the science of happiness). The 310-page book does this in an easy-to-read format and doesn't stray too far away from scientific facts. This book is obviously marketed towards a US market: most examples will probably only resonate with you if you're familiar with the American way of life. Happiness For Dummies (For Dummies (Psychology & Self Help)) is written by a clinical psychologist - very clinical, actually: The author's specialization is the psychology of pain, anger management and behavioral medicine. So it turns out he mostly writes about "happiness despite a life of misery", despite pain, alcoholism or depression. So if you are a chronic pain sufferer, this book may be of interest to you. Most of the knowledge in this 328-pages book comes from the field of health psychology. The writing style is very self-centered: in the first 6 pages alone, the word "I" (denotating the author himself) occurs more than 40 times. So if you're looking for a positive psychology book that "bridges the gap between academia and main street", as Tal Ben-Shahar puts it, you might want to take a look at the "Complete Idiot's Guide to the Psychology of Happiness", or you might try the equally readable Positive Psychology in a Nutshell (2nd Edition).
