Justification and the Catholic Church

This is a "must" read for anyone who wants to study the subject of justification. Many people do not know that the Catholic Church still holds to the Canons and Decrees of the Council of Trent regarding this doctrine. At Trent, the Catholic Church delineated, in response to the Reformation, its position on this subject. It also condemned many of the beliefs held by the reformers, including the concept of justification by "faith alone." Catholic doctrine has not changed since, and it is not likely to change any time soon. If you want to better understand the Catholic position on justification, this book is a must read. Reading the Canons and Decrees will enrich and clarify the contents of the Catechism. If you want to better understand how the Catholic doctrine differs from the traditional Protestant doctrine on justification, this is a great book to read too. It will show you why the two positions are irreconcilable.

Very informative but a tough read.

I am happy I got this book because it is interesting to learn about this council. I find it a hard read though. I wish I was able to read some before I bought it to see if another book could give me similar info in an easier to read context. I am reading it concurrently with the "Catechism of the Council of Trent" and that helps.

Review from the Publisher

CANONS AND DECREES OF THE COUNCIL OF TRENT. (1545-1563). Here are the actual dogmatic decrees and pronouncements of the Council of Trent--recognized as the greatest in Church history. Authoritative, interesting and suprising. The mind of the Church really comes through.
