Excellent sequel

First off, if you're a little confused as I was, know that this is a sequel. The first book in the "Beast House" series is actually "The Cellar," and "The Beast House" is the second. And if you liked the first, you'll love this one. If you haven't read the first, it's not essential to read these two in order but you may want to approach it that way. They're good horror, but know that they're intense creepy monster stories rather than haunted house stories as the titles might imply. Won't give away story, but I'll say that Laymon writes good characters and dialogue, his plotting is well-crafted and his horror can get explicitly brutal. Visceral, graphic horror is Laymon's forte, like many of the Leisure Horror authors, and if that's what you're coming for, you'll walk away quite satisfied. He doesn't use it as a crutch, the book is plenty scary without the graphic depictions, they're more the accents in the melodies of his plot and settings. Reads kinda like an A quality B movie, which I don't mean as any kind of put-down. I consider "Alien" an A quality B movie. Side note - fans of the movie "Feast" and it's ilk should mark The Cellar and The Beast House as must-read books.

People call it The Beast House. A old rundown house that has been turned into a tourist attraction. People who have dared enter inside its walls at night have usually been found horribly mutilated the next day. The owners of the house say that its the Beast. A hideous creature that roams the house at night searching for its next victim. Some of the locals say that the owners made the Beast up so they could make money on tourism. They believe that the murders were committed by either a serial killer or the owners themselves. Others believe that there really is a Beast and it still lives inside the house walls. One thing they all agree on is that it isn't wise to be anywhere near that house when the sun sets. They know that is a great way to never be heard from again. The Beast House is Laymon's second installment in the Beast House trilogy. I loved The Cellar so I was expecting great things when I started this book. I was not disappointed one bit. It drew me in on the first page and kept me hooked the whole ride. Richard Laymon has become one of my favorite Horror writers because of books like Beast House. I devoured this book in one night and when I finally finished I was left feeling very tired but satisfied The story starts with a bang and never lets up. There wasn't one part of this story that I found boring or stale. It is very rare to find a sequel that's as good as its predecessor but The Beast House is one of those exceptions. I enjoyed it as much as The Cellar, and I cant wait to finish this trilogy up with The Midnight Tour. Most people say that it is the best of the bunch and I cant wait to find out for myself. I highly recommend Beast House to all Horror Fictions Fans. It is a fast, fun, blood filled ride that never disappoints. Laymon is one hell of a storyteller. Go grab a copy for yourself and see what I mean.

Laymon is a master of horror!!

Before you read this book read the first book in the series "The Cellar", you won't be asking the question "who is this character?" when you read "The Beast House." "The Midnight Tour" is the third book in this Trilogy (paid through the nose for this one but it was worth it if you can find it). I am telling you I am more than impressed with these books, they are well written and fun to read. I did find this book kind of Kinky at times but what the heck! Highly recommend Laymons books, they are one of a kind in the horror arena!

Sequel to "The Cellar"

This is the second novel in the now legendary Beast House series. The first one is "The Cellar" and the third one is "The Midnight Tour." I read this book for the second time a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. It's not as exciting as some of Laymon's other novels but it's a quick read. If they made a movie of this book it'd be part action movie and part horror movie. Some of the characters in "The Cellar" are referred to in it so I'd recommend reading it before you read this book. It's not for the squeamish though - there's a lot of strong violence and gore. Though this isn't Laymon's best, he occasionally wrote something that proved he was a genius. "No Sanctuary" and "In the Dark" are two of those books.

One stop horror shop!!!!!

I picked this book up one day after i recieved it for a birthday present. I am not one so popular on quite thick books. Normally taking me months to proceed to the end of large novel. I read this book in 48 hours and is truly one of the most mesmorising books i have ever read. A carefully twisted plot and well thought out content mixed in with some steamy horror is a sure fire hit of a read. The Beast House is a harbour for horrors be it human or not at all. The house has a long past of gruesome murders and missing people. But when money and greed gets involved with the house it all starts to unravel. The houses quaint exterior peels to unearth its reality. This is a must read!!!!!
