Experience intense fighting of Sadr City in 2008 through the tankers hatch
Published by Danger Five Two , 3 years ago
This book is an honest and candid account of the authors two deployments to Iraq over the years of 2006 to 2008. Cpt Peterson shares the lure of the 70 ton armored vehicles that hooked him into choosing to branch in armor after he graduated from West Point, recounts the frustrations and tragedies of the Counter Insurgency fight that came to define most of Operation Iraqi Freedom and then captures the incredible dedication, bravery and intestinal fortitude displayed those who were involved in the fighting in Sadr City in the spring of 2008. It is a story about the technical and practical successes and challenges of fighting two entirely different wars with in a matter of weeks, but it is also a story of family, love and the brotherly bond that comes from walking in the valley of the shadow of death on a daily basis. The authors style makes the book an easy read for most part, catching, witty and some excerpts are down right hilarious, at least to those who have done their time outside the wire and can chuckle from the grim truth. Other parts are heavy and heartbreaking. I would highly recommend this book to students of armored warfare, those currently serving or thinking about serving or those simply curious about the different experiences that came with time in the sandbox.
