The Angles of Castle Dimensions

In this entertaining math adventure, Sir Cumference's son, Radius, enters upon a quest. Quests were the thing to do for aspiring knights in the ancient land of Angleland (apparently now known as England on current maps). So Radius goes to rescue King Lell, and takes with him a medallion, very much like a protractor. He uses it to determine angles which help him to follow the clues to find the missing king. When he is successful, angles are named after similar places in his adventure, such as the Mountains of Obtuse. Plenty of math terms find themselves in the story, which make it all the more entertaining. Such a great way to introduce geometry to younger children!

Even in Middle School they still like to be read to

This whole series of books is wonderful. The story line for a middle school level is somewhat elementary, but the students still LOVE them. They remember the terms and even bring them up during lessons. I think even at the middle school levels, the kids really like being read to and these books ,as silly as they seem when read at that level, help solidify these key geometry concepts in a fun kind of way. They take about 10-15 minutes to read out loud. Highly recommend!

Even my 8th graders loved it!!!

I am a special ed. teacher, and my co-teacher and I read the Sir Cumference books aloud to our 8th grade collaborative class. They loved all of them!! "Now I get it" was heard more than once!!! I highly recommend the series!!

A great learning tool

I used this book to introduce the concept of angles to my class. They loved every bit of listening to this book and have kept the ideas of "mountains of obtuse" and "cute quaint" town when identifying angles.

A Really Fun Math Adventure

Introducing Geometry has now been made more fun. Cindy Neuschwander has given upper grade teachers an exciting way to introduce a somewhat complex subject through the adventures of Radius, son of Sir Cumference and Lady Di of Ameter. This beautifully written and illustrated book has Radius out on an adventure with only a circular medallion (a protractor which is included with the book) to use to find his way through a maze of angles. Students will love the twists and turns the hero Radius encounters but solves and will be excited to learn how to use their own "circular medallion." I enjoyed this book and will be recommending it to appropriate teachers who I work with as a student teacher supervisor.
