Sixteen years have passed since Princess Nightshade and Prince Sigmun became King and Queen of Milara. Resident Wizard Fuzbud, Hannah the White, and Saraly War-Daughter are all older and busy with their own concerns. Saraly, whose own vocation has taken her far from Milara, is mysteriously called home to help confront an unknown danger.

Saraly renews her acquaintance with Hepzibannah, a dragon, and his almost grown dragonet, Zibannli. With their help, Saraly and her friends try to overcome the pirates and fire lizards threatening the small kingdom. As though that disaster isn't enough, the royal children take their fates into their own hands and run away. Is it possible to protect the kingdom and make sure the children survive?
