A short collection of poetry depicting the life and experiences of Cathleen, an English young lady who was a lover of nature and life. Cathleen falls in love with a man of colour, from Ghana in West Africa, an act that was frowned upon and not supported in her time. Cathleen, being the strong-willed lady that she was, made some of the hardest decisions, including leaving her widowed mother behind in England, to create a life with the man of her heart in Ghana. We experience the welcome that she had, and the freedom that she enjoyed, so far away from what she was familiar with. She became a well-loved lady within the community that she lived, where she contributed to the lives of many young children in the school that she and Thomas built and ran.
