A sad chapter in Canadian history

This book is based upon a real girl’s experiences in the internment camp according to the author. They increase the age of the girl and along with the increase in age different experiences happen. But there several people that actually lived in the internment camps mentioned. Britain told Canada that these people were NOT their enemy! But Canada saw them as a source of free labor and as a group to take their hatred out on about WWI. The German internment population were treated with more respect and given better shelter, food and some had servants. It is a book with happiness and sadness and worth reading! Canada invited these immigrants to come to the country to farm. Once in port some got robbed and some tried to make a go in the cities. The Ukrainian people were ashamed to reveal what happened to them because of ignorance of the law. Plus if you went to “prison” which the internment camps were, people assumed you did something to deserve it. The massive coverup by the Canadian government made it difficult for the Ukrainian people to prove what happened. The government omitted it from their history books. The beginning of the truth began in 1977 and took until 2005 for the government to come clean about what happened! Basically if we do not want something like this to happen again we have to learn from truthful history and speak up about injustice!
