Book Overview

Evoking a time when life revolved around the front porch, where friends gathered, stories were told, and small moments took on larger meaning, in today's hurry-up world, Philip Gulley's essays remind us of the world we once shared--and can share again.

When Philip Gulley began writing newsletter essays for the members of his Quaker meeting in Indiana, he had no idea one of the essays would find its way to radio commentator Paul Harvey...

Loved this book

This is the first thing I have ever read by Mr Gulley... and all I can say is WOW! It was so wonderful to read. It is written like he is talking to you. Lots of the essays are funny little jaunts, but others are serious and very thought provoking... like "The Compact" about our social compact in this country, and "The Death of Freedom" about close mindedness and religion, and "Contentment" about being content with what you have. I am now off to the library to see if they have any more of these Porch talk books. LOL I ate this one up in one day.

The All American Front Porch

This book made me smile all the way to the end. This author has a knack for seeing the best in everyone while poking fun at himself. I loved this little book and am passing it around to all my friends.

Porch Talk

Philip Gulley does a superb job as a writer, blending the art of storytelling with reminding of us of important lessons in life. If you love reading about small town life, the intricacies of families & relationships, and the quirkiness of human nature, this is the perfect book.

A perfect gem !

I have to admit right up front that I LOVE everything Philip Gulley has written. Thank goodness I love this one, too. His wit and his wisdom are unparalleled. Each story/essay is absolutely perfect. I wanted to start at the beginning and not to stop until I reached the end, but I knew it would be better to read a few a time and savor the flavor like a fine bit of chocolate or very good port. Each story is exquisitely crafted and an utter delight. I am in the process of clearing out a large amount clutter from my home and getting rid of huge volumes of "things", however ..... my Philip Gulley books (including this one) are STAYING.
