Set in Locronan in 1752. Four Germans move to start a new life in Brittany. Jaldinee's wife feels more neglect than love from her husband. She tries to show him how unhappy she is, and how much harder it is to fit in with the local women, without the intimacy and understanding they had enjoyed in Germany. Feeling threatened by a stranger his wife invites to stay, Jaldinee's behavior becomes atrocious when he takes Gerant hunting with him. Her husband doesn't like what Guerlin finds so appealing and becomes so troubled with jealousy that he does something which changes the lives of those around him.
