LOVE IT

The first plan I tried was one month plan D. I was concerned about portion sizes and flavor of the recipes. We are alomost finished with the first month's food. Everything was delicious, you never know with recipes, there were some dishes that I made notes to (add more chicken, needs more gravy) but other than that, they were all great dishes. We have a family of 6 and some of the meals are only for 4, that was not a problem at my house, we added a bread or extra fruit or vegatable and we ALWAYS had leftovers (usually only one portion). Finally I feel like my family is eating appropriate portion sizes. This really has saved me a huge amount of time and money. I figured with the one month plan each dinner cost my family about $2.23 per person. Well rounded healthy food. We have purchased the ziploc steam n bags and in 4 minutes we have fresh steamed vegetables to go with our entre. My husband has had no problems jumping in and preparing the dinner for the evening, since all you are really doing is putting it in pan and reheating. I love this book, I have been telling everyone about how great it is. If you dont have an extra freezer there are two week plans, that I can say will fit in your regular freezer (I took the last two weeks out of the deep freeze and moved them inside, just to see). Also, if a someone has a baby or a friend needs a helping hand, you have a meal all ready for them in the freezer. A nice feature...at the end of the book, there are family dinner discussion topics for the communication to get rolling at the table. No more "what did you do today?" more like "talk about one thing you started today and one thing you finished" My only complaint, the book is soft back with paper pages, this makes it hard to keep clean when you are doing cooking day since you are flipping back and forth. I put mine is a binder with sheet protectors, a small investment, but all the pages turn easy and wipe clean. I did not notice recipe issues, I noticed shopping list errors (I had stuff leftover after the food had been made) I was confused at one point at which chicken to use where, boiled or boneless breast chunks but really not a big deal to me...chicken is chicken.

More time with kids, less time in the kitchen

This book has given me hours each week with my kids that I would otherwise be spending in the kitchen cooking. There is a great variety of recipies and they are nutritious and delicious. I love how this book has both 2-week and 1-month options that make it easy to accomodate your individuals needs. I have really enjoyed reading the table talk section and incorporated many of those questions around my dinner table. This method of cooking has changed my life and the added "bonus" in this book (compared to other books of its type) is the obvious mindful approach of the authors to consider cost, time, convenience, and family. I am grateful that this book has been updated with so many more great ideas!!

Once a Month Cooking - very detailed & helpful!

Once a Month Cooking is saving me from the mealtime stress of the age-old "what's for dinner?" question that happens in my household every day around 5:00 pm. For someone like me who loves details, this book gives recipes that are easy to follow and adapt to your own tastes, menus & great advice on what order to start your once a month or weekly cooking. It has plans for 2 week meal plans & 4 week meal plans - all recipes can easily be switched from plan to plan. It is great for a beginner OAM Cook and Mary Beth Largerborg & Mimi Wilson will get you cooking in no time!

Great Organizing Tool

Once a Month Cooking is a great way to organize my every day dinner plans. The book was more than I expected. Very good recipes and hints. I would strongly reccomend this book to anyone who cooks.

If you love to cook, you must read this book!

I stumbled upon this book quite by accident at my public library. Since I have a busy family of 5 kids and homeschool 3 of them, I am always looking for ways to save time.By following the shopping list, and using my coupons and club cards I saved over $102.00 on my grocery bill! The fact that everything is made in advance means no more last minute trips to the store for one or two things and walking out having spent valuable time in line and an extra $75.00. Now I just run to the dairy for fresh milk and eggs once or twice a week and that's it.The first time I tried the recipes my daughters helped out in the kitchen and it turned into a fun learning experience and quality family time. The recipes are easy to follow and well thought out. I didn't have to add anything at all to spice up the flavor. Most importantly, the kids are hooked to, since they are responsible for kitchen cleanup. There are fewer nightly dishes. No more fighting over who has to scrub the pans. Our favorites so far are the Pizza Rollups, Chicken Cacciatore, London Broil, and Split Pea Soup.Once you get hooked, by the CD-Rom version too. There you can modify the quantity based on the number of people you are serving, as well as add your own favorite family recipes. Now you can have delicious home-cooked meals everynight of the week with much less expense, less time and lower calories. Enjoy!
