Now it is Cole's turn to tutor Eleanor on how to snare a man

In high school back in 1990 Eleanor Lippert was very smart but extremely shy. Cole Sullivan was ambitious but came from the poor part of town and his only chance for college was to win a scholarship, and that was not going to happen with his grades in math and science. So he approached Eleanor with a deal: she would be his tutor and the teacher would give her extra credit towards her physics final. Not that Eleanor would need extra credit; it was spending time with Cole that was the attraction for her. For the first time in her life she would have the chance to see herself as someone special (he calls her "Teach" and she just about melts). But as Cole expresses his gratitude for her help, Eleanor's flights of fancy get the better of her and when Cole asks someone else to the prom. she bounces a book off of his chin, leaving a scar. Now it is a dozen years later, Eleanor is a veterinarian in her hometown of Oakdale, and Cole Sullivan walks in with his dog Sadie, who needs to be neutered. It turns out he is back in town for some business and it is surprising how all the old feelings come rushing back for Eleanor when he calls her "Teach" again. He sets up plans to take her to dinner and she tries to back out, but Cole proves to be persistent, especially since he cannot understand why his old tutor is acting so strange. Then an article in the local paper breaks through the dam: Sister Marguerite Bertrice died peacefully at her niece's home in Oakdale. A tear Eleanor gasps out the harsh truth that with the death of Sister Marguerite, Eleanor is now the oldest virgin in Oakdale.Cole gets points because even though comforting people is not his forte he takes her "problem" seriously. However, this becomes rather difficult when Eleanor comes up with a proposal. When she tutored him back in high school he said he owed her, and this is the chance for him to make good. Cole is stunned: does Eleanor mean what he thinks she means? No, not that (this is a Silhouette Romance, not Harlequin Temptations); she wants Cole to be her love tutor and teach her how to flirt (i.e., how to get a man). "The Oldest Virgin in Oakdale" can trace its literary origins back to the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea (with a touch of "Pretty Woman"), with Cole Sullivan turning Eleanor Lippert into a desirable woman (with some help from a rather ironic third party). Cole was pleased to find Eleanor was still single, but he has never been interested in women who wanted emotional attachments. Besides, he has plans to do something in Oakdale that will make him quite unpopular. Eleanor has always loved Cole since high school, but she is trying to be logical about her prospects and she does not see her first love as lasting forever. Wendy Warren's romance is set in the fictional town of Oakdale on the Deschutes River in central Oregon. The interaction between Eleanor and Cole is rather cute as both take turns being oblivious (his reaction to her first "date" is pretty funny
