Intriguing and Fun - Buy This Book!

My Favorite Place on Earth: Celebrated People Share Their Travel Discoveries This is a delightful travel book, full of intriguing first person narratives and evocative photos. Jerry Dunn rustles up a wide and eclectic range of celebrities to quiz about their favorite places on earth. The result is a global smorgasbord of esoteric pleasures, hidden gems, and unexpected locales. The lucky reader gets to stowaway with famous people with the means and time to discover some of the most wonderful places on the planet. Since the VIPs describe why they love their favorite places, the pieces also illuminate their personalities. Every entry contains a thumbnail sketch of the celebrity as well as a section called "Compass Points," which locates the spot geographically. Some entries are profound, others hilarious and still others unexpected and wonderfully unpretentious. Dunn, an excellent interviewer, writes with engaging wit and charm. This book manages to be entertaining, informative, and inspiring all at once. Buy this book and start planning your next trip!

What a book!

My Favorite Place on Earth features not just famous people, but truly notable and interesting people, which I was excited to see. Dunn's interview techniques are incredibly strong; he's able to boil down conversations into concise, clear, and interesting segments that seem as though the subject is talking right to you. His writing style is fun to read, and the variety of places and people kept me glued. I'm picking up his book Idiom Savant: Slang As It Is Slung next. I can't recommend My Favorite Place enough, hopefully there will be a sequel because I want more!

Best Places I'm Going to Next

Jerry Dunn's book is a must-read, can't-put-down-treat! I loved the inteviews, the gargantuan (sometimes) personalities and all the new places I have to go to before I cash in my chips. They may not be secrets anymore--no thanks to Mr. Dunn, but they will still be treats! Highly recommended! Kingston Cole

My Favorite Travel Discoveries Book

My Favorite Place on Earth: Celebrated People Share Their Travel Discoveries Of all the travel books I have read, "My Favorite Place on Earth: Celebrated People Share Their Travel Discoveries" is the first which truly conveys in an informal, but informative, fashion what is truly "special" about a special place. I have learned about places one rarely, if at all, hears about, such as Fairhope, Alabama, which are within ones reach-- and which I look forward to visiting. And I have learned of places that may be out of reach for many of us, such as Sylvia Earle's wonderful, memorable description of twinkling life in the dark deep seas, but which I have visited and revisited in my mind numerous times thanks to her description. What a great book!

Inspiring, Fun, Insightful

MY FAVORITE PLACE ON EARTH is a wonderful read. Most importantly, it provides an intimate glimpse into the world's most exciting places for people who have lived very exciting lives. These places aren't listed because of general critical acclaim, but because they inspire a deep passion in each person profiled. Jerry's participants colorfully describe their favorite cafes, bookstores, and times of the day, with the deep emotions that only arise from a desire to spend as much time there as possible. Secondly, this is not standard tourist fare. Most of the places are very unique, ranging from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean to orbiting the earth. I found a lot of places I would like to see that I have never heard of before - and I've traveled a good amount. Finally, this book tells you the ultimate insiders' secret places. Where do the quintessential travelers with free time go? Tony Wheeler (Lonely Planet founder) and Arthur Frommer tell you. Where do billionaires love to vacation? Branson, Lucas and others speak honestly. Where do those rich in spirit get inspired? The Dalai Lama and Deepak Chopra preach their travel gospels. These some 75 people can go anywhere in the world, but they shout about their most special places in this book. I highly recommend reading MY FAVORITE PLACE ON EARTH by Jerry Dunn.
