Vision Forum Edition is NOT Kathleen Norris' Book

The Vision Forum version of this book published in 2000 is "restored and revised" by Jennie Chancey "with a special emphasis on Christian family life" (from the dustcover). Since this would be the first book by Kathleen Norris that I would have ever read, I had no interest in reading someone else's revision of her work. So stay away from this edition if you care about the author's intent. Reading the original on my Kindle, I can say that the book is charming and very sensible. Yes it was written in that innocent decade before WWI, but the truth is still true and Norris has a beautiful intuition for the truth and some of her characters are delightful. Read the original. You will be rewarded.

One of the best books I have ever read.

This is a short, quick read, but it is rich in meaning without being preachy. Keep tissues handy. You will cry. At least half a dozen times throughout the story. "Mother" is a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful story and I will be purchasing extra copies to pass on to friends. Every young woman should read this novel. As another reviewer pointed out, the heroine of the story is not the main character. This story shows how one woman can touch so many lives, inspire them with her example, and begin destinies. The writing flows, the characters are all likeable, and it was a joy to read. Read it, read it, read it. This is a true literary masterpiece.

Mother: a name most dear

A touching story of a young girl who goes into the world to find what her heart desires. She is rather selfish, and scorns the poor women who stay at home, spending their time on their families. In the end, she realizes that really wants to be a loving, Godly wife and mother, like her own mother. When I began this book, I was a bit sceptical. I thought, "This isn't the type of girl I would want to emulate, or bother reading about." But I cried at the end, and highly recommend this book.

Mother by Kathleen Norris

This was a very heart-stirring book for me. When I reached the end, I found myself weeping. I subsequently gave the book to a friend, who found it so inspiring that she is afraid to loan it out to others for fear it will get lost and she will no longer have it in her possession. We believe it is a book that all young women should be required to read.

Focus on what is really important in life: Family.

I found this book on my grandmother's shelf and couldn't put it down! The story is a great one, of the joy and happiness of family life and what blessings can come when we are serving those we love. I was inspired by this book and given a new determination to do what is really important in life: raise a good family and love them. So often the responsibilities of motherhood are degraded in our society, yet we end up finding that careers and worldly success don't bring the joy that family does. This book illlustrates that so well! What an inspiring story; a real feel-good book! Please reprint!!!!
