Humorous Short Read

Despite its sour reviews on other websites, I thought the book was pretty groundbreaking to someone who may have no knowledge on dormant skills that lay in the brain. I will say it’s not the best book to grab if you want and in-depth read on the art of memory as it does read more like a novel. I see this book as a gateway novel to learning more about the brain and for that I am glad I’ve read it. It was also pretty humorous so not a waste of time; unless you were expecting something else. After reading the book, I’ve decided to memoeize a deck of cards with the same techniques he uses and to my surprise, I remembered the entire deck with no mistakes in one read. Although this may be a useless skill it’s has led me to research other mnemonics and I can easily impress those around me who rely on external memorization.

learn to use your mind

this book will teach you the power of your mind and how to use it.

I picked up this book just because of the funny name and was very surprised. One day Josh is sent to cover the story on a memory championship. At first he thought it was just boring and a waste of time but after seeing people memorize several pages of binary, names and faces and the exact order of upwards of 20 decks of cards he thought it very impressive in a rain-man sort of way. After talking to a few people he quickly found out that they were just average people who trained and practiced how to memorize using a variety of systems. Josh decides to see how far he can with the same training and we get to follow his progress and techniques along the way. This is an excellent book to get into the memory game or just to learn how to remember a huge amount of information quite easily, be it a grocery list (which you learn how to do so in the book), large blocks of numbers, names and faces or maybe you just want to memorize everyone's names and faces much faster. Definitely worth a read.
