Little Hobo's Travels is the story of The Great Depression and how Michael Howell, a young boy, is sent to live with his grandmother in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, because his father lost his job. After his father falls while trying to get into a boxcar, Michael finds himself alone and soon takes up with Wilbur and Jake, two experienced hobos. While traveling to Pennsylvania, the three have many exciting adventures--almost getting smothered by cotton seed, meeting some unscrupulous gypsies, being chased by railroad bulls, and many more. Along the way, Jake and Wilbur teach Michael the ins and outs of riding the rails and living the life of a little hobo.Readers young or old will find humor, love, adventure, danger, and heroism in this children's adventure and will enjoy the many illustrations that bring the story to life.
