Letters from Iran

The author wrote her parents every week while in training, in Hamadon, Iran, and then while in service as a Peace Corps Volunteer, teaching English as a Foreign Language, in Babol, Iran. The book is a compilation both the letters of the author and her parents. _ e letters begin when the author departs her home state, Oregon, for Philadelphia, for her thirst introduction into the cross-cultural experience provided by Peace Corps in 1972. The letters by the author offer an inside look at a fresh college graduate moving into a job overseas. The parents offer loving support the entire two years and visit the author in Tehran, Babol and Isfahon. There are vivid descriptions of Iranian life and customs, as seen through the eyes of Arlene. Although single, Arlene was befriended by three families: Keyony, Jaffarzaday and Ahkavon and made to feel part of their families. She adapted to the Iranian ways and wrote lively descriptions of the impressions she was privileged to encounter.
