excellent french aid

My high school freshman really liked this dictionary for her French III class to aid her in writing and speaking.

Best In It's Class

The Larousse Pocket Dictionary manages to walk the line between too much and too little. Many compact translation dictionarys have too few words. They are so compact that they become impractical. While on the other hand, this little book is complete while not exhausting. You will be able to find the words for: ---"Excuse me, I am a member of the Tunis Police Force and you seem to be parked illigally"you will not however find the words for:---"Confound it, Stop snorkeling your hot-n-tots at that Yak"Happy Translating...

Not all pocket dictionaries are created equal

LA ROUSSE - even the French use it! I'm not being facetious! It's true! LA ROUSSE is great and this version is incredible! This has helped me through some situations where I never even thought would be able to help me.It is easy to navigate through and is so useful to any French scholar, new or seasoned.

Excellent portable dictionary

The Larousse Pocket Dictionnaire is a good first dictionary for students of French. If you want full entries with the most colloquial phrases, or if you're going to do heavy translating, consider a larger dictionary. Plusses: It is a very convenient size: it literally fits in your pocket. It has 80.000+ words. Great price! Its french.Minuses: The cover will not hold up to heavy wear. There are no tabs-by-letter to help you quickly locate the area of the dictionary you're looking for (though its so compact this isn't really a problem).

Arguably the best value available

I reach for this volume first among all my dictionaries, even for English spelling -- it's that comfortable to use. The tone is casual and reads native-written (rather than evoking the struggle of an American speaking French).With 55,000+ references and 80,000+ translations, differentiation of French and English dialects, plenty of up-to-date phrases, this is a great all-around choice for the frugal worksmith.
