makes the law understandable

For everyone who has run into the brick wall of legalese and juvenile court, this book is a great guide. We passed it around to our youth group and juvenile justice committee. Lots to learn; good manual to have. Should be on the shelf of anyone who deals with kids.

PBS TeacherSource review

From PBS TeacherSource review:The author, an attorney specializing in juvenile law and youth advocate, has prepared a guide to the juvenile justice system. The book's three sections examine what is done by kids, what is done for and to kids, and the future of juvenile justice. An appendix covers Federal involvement in juvenile law. A glossary is included. This book would make a good resource for civics classrooms.

best guide to juvenile justice I've found

John Biggers has been a real inspiration in Tucson, Arizona for years. As a juvenile court attorney, he has worked with a lot of kids, parents, and volunteered to help a lot of schools and youth programs. This guidebook is a culmination of his work in Tucson; a lot of it draws from the curriculum he has developed for schools. As someone in the law enforcement field, I have found it to be the best manual or guide to the juvenile justice system around. I gave it the highest rating and would recommend it without reservation.

Required Reading For All Who Deal with Kids

Divided into two parts--What Kids Do, and What Is Done for Kids--this guidebook is a valuable tool for anyone who lives or works with kids. Dealing with both criminal and civil issues, KIDS LAW answers a lot of questions about juvey, school situations, abuse, and money issues. I can see teachers and counselors using this as a textbook, or youth groups and parent groups using it for workshops.

great book for parents, teachers and kids

I work with at-risk youth and their parents in California. I found KIDS LAW to be an excellent guidebook for those confused by the legalese of the juvenile justice system. It is like having a lawyer quietly sit down and explain what few others have the time to explain. The life story on "Margo and Elbow" also gave us a first-hand look at how the system works. Definitely urge parents, schools, youth groups and other organizations working with youth to check this out.
