Originally I liked it a lot but it’s hard to know what to believe

Initially I enjoyed the book, but now as Yeonmi has become increasingly involved in American politics it hard to tell if she has an agenda. There’s many allegations that she has fabricated parts of the story. She also used to be on a reality TV show in South Korea with her mom under a pseudonym. On the show she admits that her family was wealthy compared to others and her mom says that they never starved or had to eat bugs. I’m not saying her story is a total lie or that she did not suffer in NK, but it’s hard to tell what the truth is here.

A study in Courage, Tenacity and love for freedom

I was curious as to what this book was about because I am a fan of Yeomi Park and a subscriber to her YouTube channel. I've heard her speak at length regarding the cost of freedom. This book, in her own words, explains what it means to live under a dictator and oppression. Until the very end of the book I was very sad about what she and her mother and her family had to endure & live with in her very long journey to freedom. Her courage and strength defy any explanation other than she is an example that freedom it's not free!
