TENACITY....PERSISTENCE...PERSEVERANCE These are the terms that you can apply to Dave Pavlesic in his quest to own his dream of playing professional baseball. I happen to have been a teammate of Dave's for a short period of time at Tulsa in 1964. I didn't know Dave's story back then, but I know it now. So, should you. Dave's story begins in Pittsburgh. His early years were characterized by constant moving, austerity, scarcity, the acrimonious divorce of his parents, and a step-mom who made his life miserable. Yet, he clung to his dream of being a professional baseball player. Through it all, Dave kept believing that one day he would take ownership of his dream...and his destiny. Dave had all the elements to succeed as a pro player with the exception of an opportunity. After a three-year stint in the Marines, where he honed his baseball skills and performed exceedingly well, Dave received no professional offers, so he chose to go to college. Maybe he could showcase his talents there... and he did. Dave was told through the years that he is too short, too old, too this, too that. Professional baseball scouts were full of excuses why they could not, or would not, sign Dave to a contract. But he kept on putting up eye-popping statistics wherever he played, Dave begins to gain traction in his quest to play professional baseball At 24 years of age, his chance finally arrived, when the San Francisco Giants signed him to a contract. It was a surreal end that brought a new beginning. Dave began anew and embarked on the journey to fulfill his lifetime dream.
