Couldn't put it down

NOTE: This book is Christian/Bible based so please know beforehand before you read. But even if you aren't a Christian, you can still get some valuable information from this book. This book is God-centered so if you are an atheist/agnostic you will probably be turned off (but try reading it anyways!) ;) So many people say, you cannot love another unless you are a whole person or they say, you have to love yourself before you can love someone else. But no one gives us instructions on how to do that. "How to make love work" is a great guide which describes that without God, you cannot be a whole person nor can you truly love someone the right way without God. Before I became Christian, I was married to a man (atheist) who betrayed me. I ran to the divorce attorney without thinking. Had I had God in my life, I would have slowed down and thought about what I was doing with my life and my corrosive marriage. Now I am divorced and a single women but by loving God, I don't need to go out and find a man. I love myself and God fills me with His love. Now I can take my time and be picky about my next love (if God grants it, that is). The book is written in a witty way that reads like an instruction pamphlet on how to put a computer together and the author fills the books with spot-on analogies that make you think and give you pause. Whether you are single and looking or married for many years, this book can offer you insight into building and sustaining love that is fulfilling and life affirming.

Hello Out There

O.K. I was a young woman that was convinced that I was the only one in the world that experienced certain things in life, until I read this book. Not only waws I able to relate, but got answers to questions that I often wondered why things happened they way they did in my life. This is one book you have to read twice once to get an idea and second to take notes to make sure you don't make the same mistake twice in life. Great Book.

"You get to choose if you will be a gift to the world or a liability."

God created each of us to be unique individuals with unique talents. He has a master plan for our lives, but he also created us with freewill. We unlike any of his other creations; we make decisions for ourselves. Along with those decisions come consequences. "You get to choose if you will be a gift to the world or a liability." One of the most profound statements in How to Make Life Work is "God is passionately interested in every aspect of your life." The Creator wants a personal relationship with you. It is hard to review How to Make Life Work without quoting, quoting, quoting. Michelle McKinney Hammond offers readers real tools to give purpose to their lives. She offers the four elements of a full life: wisdom, attitude, habits, and character. She continues on to discuss how to utilize the elements. Once a Godly life is assembled, it takes maintenance in the form of prayer, diet, rest, self-control, and love. There are many books proclaiming to assist the reader in finding their purpose, talents, etc. However, few are more than feel good manuals. How to Make Life Work is written in a simple easy-to-understand manner. Hammond offers wisdom to her readers.

Great guide for love from dating to marriage

How to Make Love Work by Michelle McKinney Hammond is a fun, enjoyable book about love from dating all the way through marriage. It's written tongue-in-cheek as a technical manual, so there are references to the Manufacturer (God) and the Manufacturer's Manual (Bible) along with other humorous tidbits throughout the book. But for its fun writing style, the book is filled with fantastic tips on how to improve your relationships. Hammond starts with getting yourself right before entering into a relationship, moves on to how to pick the right Man, continues through engagement and the wedding and finally into marriage. The tips for dating are on the money, but as a married woman, I especially enjoyed the sections on marriage. She uses the gifts of the spirit from Galatians and the Love guide from 1 Corinthians 13 to detail how each person needs to be in a relationship for it to work. The book is geared toward women, but there is a lot that a man could benefit from reading as well. I've been memorizing several of the verses she included, and I've been using the tips as well. Occasionally the humorous "manual" speak falls a little flat, but that's a small point on an otherwise fabulous book. Hammond has an enormous amount of wisdom to share, and this book exemplifies it. I'm giving this book to an engaged friend of mine to read next.
