Homer's Wives: Helen

The book restores Helen as a female role model. More than the queen of Sparta and the princess of Troy, Helen was the only daughter of Zeus and the first woman to choose her man. The book carries the reader back to Greece late bronze age and the time of the heroes. It describes Helen's childhood in Sparta and her early years as queen. It accompanies Helen through her decision to leave her queendom for the promise of a new life with Paris, the handsome prince of Troy.

But the Greeks do not agree. For them she is a sacred person, the daughter of Zeus, the queen that all took the oath to protect and guard. Only war can still the offence. So they go to get her back. She is confused and undertakes a long journey during which she realizes her divine mission. Through her journey through the underworld and her meetings with the Olympians she finds out that she has to unite people and teach them that they belong together. She has to heal their wounds and protect them from their destructive powers and toxic thoughts. She has to bring love and hope to those around her. Once Helen realizes her mission, she takes action to stop the war. She seeks the help of men but they are too proud to listen. She seeks the help of women but they are too jealous to join her. Nevertheless she carries on and finds important allies among the young women and she gets involved in many events that lead to the fall of Troy. Menelaus takes her to Egypt, where she realizes her full spiritual powers and how she can guide and heal people in need.

Upon her return to Sparta she understands that whole Greece is in need. Now in old age and fully aware of her powers she feels ready to take the job upon her shoulders and lead the Greeks out of the misery. So she guides her daughter Hermione and her son-in-law Orestes in their new lives as royals of Mycenae. This becomes a peaceful and graceful period of Mycenaean history. She reconciles with her daughter and lives a fulfilled life until her ascension.
