Historical Perspective of Indian Educational Philosophy

INTRODUCTION: What is Philosophy of Education? What does It teach us? Vihat does it tell us about education that we cannot otherwise find out? Can it help us practically, to run a school room or a school system? Can it help parents rear their children? All these perrineal questions are to be answered to know the meaning and significance of philosophy of education. The phrase "Philosophy of education" consists of two words which are the two sides of the same coin. To understand the meaning of the phrase, philosophy of education, it is essential to know what is philosophy and what is education? ETYMOLOGY; The word Philosophy endeavours to understand all that comes within the scope of human experiences. Philosophy is a search for comprehensive view of nature, an attempt at a universal explanation of the nature of the things. It has originated from the Greek words. If we split the word "Philosophy" into two parts: 'Philo' means 'love', 'sophy', m.eans wisdom. Thus philosophy means love of wisdom and one who seeks this.
