Very Helpful in my Personal Studying God's Word!

I have just started using it and it's been very helpful. Easy to understand and enough details to explain content. I like it! It's a great help in studying God's Word!

Good book, BUT not the one shown in the picture… disappointing.

I did not receive the hardcover book that was displayed in the picture of the ad. I received an older version, that is still a good book, but not what I was looking for when I decided to buy this one. Please update the picture. I should have looked at the ISBN more closely before buying.

Henry H. Halley's Bible Book

I decided to get this book because my great grandfather got a copy in 40s while he was in seminary and that copy has been passed down to my Dad. I picked up a newer copy to see how it has evolved. This is a phenomenal resource.

Halley's handbook is wonderful

I found the handbook to be very good. I think if you read the bible along with the handbook you can really learn a lot. The book is not meant to replace the word of God but to help you to understand some of the backround and cultural aspects of biblical times. I found the handbook to be a wonderful help and highly reccomend it to any student of God's word.

A must for any Bible Library

Halley's Bible Handbook is a great starting place to build your Bible Library. This book, though not concise, is fairly comprehensive and gives a good overview of the various areas of scripture.It is simply a handbook, not an encyclopedia or dictionary. Keep it handy as you study the scriptures for the first time or if you want a clue of the issues behind certain times and happenings. The good point of this work it is not influenced much by Halley's beliefs and tends to be straightforward information that will help you build a broadbased foundation to your studies.

Great Resource

This book provides a great background for both the Bible in its entirety and for each book of the Bible. It gives a brief introduction with details such as the probable writer for the book, its theme, and important notes to keep in mind while reading the book. Each book summary is then broken down into individual chapter summaries. The book also contains some basic Bible study techniques and maps of locations talked about (i.e.- the location of the seven churches in Revelation). In response to the criticism other reviews have given this book: This book is intended to encourage and supplement Bible reading. It is not intended to provide what the Bible provides nor is it intended as a commentary. Everything is based on facts as opposed to theory/opinion unless otherwise stated. The intention is to point the reader to the Bible. The second important thing to remember is that Halley originally published this book in 1924. It is natural that some of the new criticisms and ideas may not be mentioned. This does not make the author a liar or the book false; it simply means that every criticism and idea mentioned since that time is not worthwhile considering the purpose of this book. One final note: Henry Halley devoted his life to helping others get into God's word, and was known for the large portions of the Bible he had memorized. There is no questioning that he had the credentials to write such a handbook.

Clear, Concise, Very Understandable

I have spent alot of time reading Halley's Bible Handbook. It has helped me get an overview of any book of the Bible I am reading. If you want to know the following about any book of the Bible ie... who wrote it, why was it written, to whom was it written, when it was written, the times and circumstances surrounding the writing and a general summary of the book then Halley's Bible Handbook is the one for you.
