As someone in charge of a large MMORPG Guild I found this to be helpful in my day to day running of the guild. Just the idea of setting goals for a guild and getting the entire guild focused on common task(s) is key to keeping a guild feeling useful and together. I find that a large guild can become to unwieldy and can fracture without proper a task(s)to concentrate on. His description of the traits of different generations, I find to be accurate. Like the author, I've played with all age ranges and he hits the nail on the head here. Generation "Y" never seems to amaze me. I call my Gen. Y'ers the "Special Forces of Wow". If you want to truly watch some unimaginable game play keep your eyes on these "kids". :) The only reason I don't give this book 5 stars is some of the material is just review for most experienced gamers. For example...the definitions of game terms. I realize non-gamers may need these terms defined but I bought the book for strategies and ideas for better guild management. But all around, I thought it was well written, clear and concise with some entertainment value.

A Treatise on Leadership

It is important to realize that leadership is a very important component for any group that wishes to successfully accomplish a desired objective. There are many ways leadership skills are developed. Traditionally, these range from school activities, sports, the military, membership in social organizations, to training sessions through work. The author of this book uses real world examples and outlines how leadership techniques are expressed and developed. This book takes a comprehensive approach in highlighting all aspects crucial to leadership. It transcends its virtual world theme and outlines methods that can be utilized to better equip ones personal leadership skills or instill better leadership practices in any group irrespective of size or scope. The book successfully accomplishes the goal set forth by the author in sharing personal leadership lessons learned and framing these into concepts that can be used in any situation. I would highly recommend picking up this book and utilizing the ideas expressed within.

A must for guild leaders of all experience levels

Honestly, I should have titled this.. a must for everyone as the information presented can be used in your personal and business life as well. I gave this as a Christmas gift to all the officers in my guild and bought one myself, we quote it all the time when faced with decisions. It provides a wealth of information on what it truly means to be a guild leader, how you should handle specific situations, what you should focus on as a guild leader and how you can make your guild successful (and in the process become a better and more effective leader) whether you are just building it up now or have been established for years.

A Useful Guide for Virtual Leadership

This well-organized and well-written book is a great guide to leading when you have no real power other than personality and a keyboard. While it focuses on leadership in MMORPGs, these are skills and techniques that are becoming increasingly relevant to play and work as virtual worlds become common for new uses.
