Still Holds Up!

So my family had a copy of this book for probably 20 years. At some point, my grandma (who was always the main cook in our home) stopped cooking as much and the book must have gotten misplaced. I really wanted to see the book again because my grandma always said this book had the greatest recipes. She wasn't lying. This book has everything. From basic cookies to divinity candy it's here! Definitely worth getting a copy! This book is also extremely useful around the holidays. So many ideas for treats to put in baskets and jars.

The ultimate book of cookies, brownies, bars and biscuits!

This is a truely wonderful book for anyone with a passion for cookies. The pages are nice and big and very easy to read. There are over 600 color photographs throughout the book, one for almost every recipe, and the directions are step-by-step and easy to understand. The book contains every cookie recipe imaginable from Black and White Ginger Florentines to Walnut Cookies, to Cheddar Pennies, Chocolate Kisses, Mocha Viennese Swirls, Mexican Almond Biscuits - You name it! This book would make an excellent gift for anyone who loves cookies or loves to bake or both.

Good description and nice pics, of course. Just try one recipe, it's chocolate chips cookies something...It's just too sweet for me, well, it's just a matter of taste, I might need to modify a bit to my tastebud. But the rest about the book is fine..Dont hesitate to buy!

beautiful book

So far the recipes I've tried have turned out great. I like that they aren't as cloyingly sweet as many cook recipes are. This is definitely a book I will keep handy near holidays, both to make the cookies as presents, and to make the biscuits and muffins for holiday dinners.

A great collection of favorites.

This is a beautiful coffee table style books with some very interesting baking ideas. While the title might be deceptive, this is not just a cookie book. Most of the treats are sweet, but there are also recipes for "Lavender Scones," "Dill Potato Cakes," and "Curried Crackers." It might take a lifetime to make all 200 recipes, so I recommend this book as a holiday treat book. The gingerbread Teddy Bears (complete with painted on pajamas) and Chocolate Nut Clusters have "Christmas Gifts" written all over them! While I have seem many Scottish Shortbread recipes, this is the first book which explained how to make them look very professional by shaping them in a mold. There is also a recipe for Lavender Heart Cookies which Jerry Traunfeld has also helped to make famous. Here and there you will find a bit of interesting information. "In folklore, lavender has always been linked with love, as has food, so make some heart-shaped cookies and serve them on Valentine's Day or any other romantic anniversary." "Coconut cookies are sold in Israeli street markets during Passover." There is also a lovely recipe for Ladyfingers which are used as the basis for Tiramisu. YUM!

I recieved this book as a Christmas present from my mother last year, and right away was impressed with the detail that obviously went into making the book, all the directions are illustrated, in full color and are a great help. I have made about 3 types of cookies from this book so far and they all came out great!
