Best pure history of the AAGPBL written

While Susan Johnson's "When Women Played Hardball" might be the better overall book due to the more personal nature of her writing, Lois Browne's work stands (to me) as the best pure history of the league. She has a good fluid writing style and is easy to read, plus she keeps things in chronological order to make sense of things. It's a little more elevated than the youngest readers might catch on to (for them, I'd recommend Sue Macy's "A Whole New Ballgame"), but as an introduction to women's pro baseball in the 1940's and 50's, this is the best place to start. THEN read Johnson's book.
