Great book

Awesome book!!! If you like people getting punched in the face, and reading (yeah, it's possible!), you'll like this. Great book, cool pics and fun times.

The Hunter S. Thomson of fight-writing on your coffee table, only your wife is safe.

As a longtime listener of the webcast "Knuckle Up", I'd heard the rantings about this book and, without a Paypal account, figured this is as good a way to support the art. I was happy I did. This book touches on many of the forms fighting takes, some of which I was interested in and others, I found compelling by virtue of Mr. Robinson's prose. Unique and unflinchingly honest, his writing is coupled with the humility of one who's faced -and lost- to many of the luminaries, legends and reprobates of the fight world. Think of the internal monologue of Tyler Durden from "Fight Club" if he fought Roy Jones Jr. instead of Jared Leto. Now make him NOT gay, and you pretty much got this book. I'm confident that if Mr. Robinson wrote about dog shows, he'd find the madness within the reason that people engage in those things too -and I'd find it just as much fun to read- but given this book is about our most basic alpha-male communication tool, I feel there are few writers today that can lend his insight.

If you don't buy this book you just might get [...] for not asking.

It dosen't matter if your a pacifist or dislike violence. You could be a nun, a soccer mom, or a back-up singer for John Denver and still find lots of USEFUL knowlege in this read. Useful knowledge that is improtant, the way breathing is improtant. Or the ABILITY to walk away from a fight with your teeth still in your head if you choose to do so. It's always a good idea to fill your head with as much survival knowledge that you can get your hands on, because...you never know. Be prepared, thats' all. Why not? What if someone were to attack an elderly person right in front of you? If you had your head right you might be able to circumvent that situation. Wouldn't you like to walk down the street with your mate knowing you could hanlde just about anything that could rear it's head at you(minus guns, drive bys, etc). Robinson gives plenty of reference points for you to sink your teeth into as well. Myself not knowing very much of the pro. and extreme fight world can now at least have a conversation about them after reading this. There's one or two "controvercial" chapters dealing with knives and someone loosing it and accidently killing another man. These are presented as case studies,as warnings of what could happen if your not thinking, not glorified. Very professional throughout. Best book of the year. Oh yeah, if you like the book you'll also want to give [...] a vist. The site has daily music and reporting webcasts from multiple hosts, including this books author Mr. Robinson. Knukle Up!!!

Laugh Though Your Face is Breaking

Great fight book. Robinson is a writer and rock musician (whose band will either play a set or beat up the audience, according to the evening's ambiance), but for purposes of this book he's playing roving participatory reporter on all aspects of the fight scene. With an emphasis but not limitation to Mixed Martial Arts, but veering into all kinds of extremely interesting stuff, such as the eternal question - What is the real sh-t with that 52 Blocks thing?? And lots more. Tons more. He tell how to avoid or get into bar fights (depending on your preference), what it's like to be knocked out (tallies with my own sad experiences) and so much more. Just the few pages where he gets an emergency room doc to detail the worst fight injuries he's every treated are alone worth the price of the book. Key thing, Robinson, in addition to being a very experienced kick butt fighter himself, most importantly is a gonzo funny writer - and I love funny writing above all things. This book is way more interesting and vastly better written than the spate of other MMA related books that have come out recently - that I am too kindly to enumerate by name here. And while proffering practical information and being so highly amusing, Robinson touches on the deeper stuff which preoccupies me. Like: why are human males so obsessed with violence and competition? I mean I've dabbled in martial arts, including boxing and Yi Quan and other violent, competitive things like that. But you know, deep down, unlike Robinson, I don't really approve of it at all. I don't like it, I don't think it's good. Violence is bad. But I thank Robinson most heartily for throwing some light and laughs on our dark, dirty, dangerous path.

Total Entertainment....

I have seen quite a few books on fighting, and quite often they can be boring because they focus on only one type of fighting. What makes "Fight" so entertaining is that it takes an in-depth look at so many different types of fighting and so many different types of people. Hockey fights, boxing, martial arts, street fights - all receive coverage. The author even includes lists of famous fights, famous fighters, and famous fight scenes in movies. A fun read and a great book!
