It's only a three-year mandatory service, and many never even see combat. Of those that do, a majority come home. Then there is the EFL. Straight out of Basic Training, new EFL legionnaires are sent to the Xobian Desert. That's where the real training begins. If they survive that first tour and show some potential, they are given the opportunity to escape the heat, drudgery, smell, and death of The Xo and finish their service in another theater of operations. The pain is only just the beginning, as the EFL deploys to all major conflict hot spots worldwide. How long are three years when each day can be your last?
EFL is written in an exciting and rare format, placing the reader as a character in a computer game of sorts. Will you survive or die early in a few chapters? Will you be forced to Restart and live through all the trials and pain again or experience a new game, a different challenge?
The life-threatening and altering realities of combat are not to be taken lightly. Only those who have lived through it know its horrors, pain, deprivation, insanity, cruelty, and sorrow. Yet, each person who returns from combat also shares a deeper bond with those who stood by their side, forming a tight brother/sisterhood. There is also a lighter side: dark humor, fond memories of foreign places, smells, and sounds that trigger a moment experienced in youth many years past.
What choices will you make as the reader? Can you win the game?
