Dr DeMares has written a wonderful book that imaginatively bridges the gulf between the strictly scientific worldview with its inbuilt limitations and the poetic/mythological viewpoint that may give rise to a deeper, richer kind of understanding. Dolphins have been around for about 30 million years with a highly evolved intelligence and advanced communication abilities.Perhaps we humans have something to learn from these creatures at this crucial time in our own evolutionary path. Ryan DeMares lays out a convincing case for developing interspecies communication being available through "peak experiences" that many open-minded people report having after swimming with dolphins.I highly recommend this book.
Diving with Dolphins...

"Dolphins, Myths & Transformation" is much more than a book about swimming with the dolphins. It is a comprehensive work on the ecological, socio-political and spiritual influences that inform humans' relationship to dolphins. Dr. DeMares covers myriad topics, including dolphin-assisted therapy, peak dolphin encounters, dolphin language, and dolphin consciousness and personhood. My favorite chapter is "The Language Puzzle." Scientists have known for years that on some level that dolphins and their whale counterparts have language. But, did you know that some animals thought not to previously possess language do in fact use complex grammar? For example, the social prairie dog can identify through language not only the name for a specific predator, but its size, shape, and color, too? So it seems that the details such as culture and language that have been used by politicians and scientists to separate man from the animals seem to be falling by the wayside one by one.As an ecologist I found "Dolphins, Myths & Transformation" a fascinating read. It is also very accessible to the lay reader.

Dolphins, Myths, & Transformation by Ryan DeMares (the first person to hold a doctorate in Interspecies Communication) is an informed and informative exploration of the relationship between humans and dolphins, both at the levels of individual consciousness and global interaction. Ms. DeMares provides the reader with a spiritual and soulful reflection on the bonds between two remarkably different yet ultimately interlinked species. Written to be completely accessible to the non-specialist general reader, Ryan DeMares' Dolphins, Myths, & Transformation is a unique and very welcome contribution to the scholarly study of human-animal communications and relationships.
Communing with Dolphins

Ryan DeMares has done pioneering work in the field of interspecies communication, and her new book, Dolphins, Myths and Transformation offers chapter after chapter of thought-provoking interpretations and insights into dolphin behavior. DeMares writes in a beautifully original voice and descriptions of her own peak experiences with dolphins are unforgetable. Her approach to studying dolphins is one of communion with them. She writes about what dolphins can teach us and the ways they can enlighten our thinking. She describes how we can best understand dolphins by "becoming the other," and through practicing breathwork so that we can better empathize with them and experience their true nature. DeMares shows us that we have much to learn from dolphins since they know how to live in the present and can float through the day in a kind of joyous celebration. In the remarkable myths of Homo delphinus, we are co-evolving and converging with dolphins and becoming human-dolphins. More and more people who are feeling called by dolphins, are beginning to see themselves as dolphins in human forms. DeMares even reports on how children are having these thoughts in their dreams. This visionary book is a must-read for anyone who wants to learn more about dolphins and for those who love these remarkable creatures. ...P>Celeste Allegrea Adams<br>Creatrix Studio
