DICCIONARIO INGLES

This English/Spanish dictionary is very different. Every page has two columns--English on one side and Spanish on the other side. Each word is explained in English, and each variance of the definition is numbered. By finding the corresponding number in the Spanish column, you can be more accurate in your translation of a word. Multiple uses

This dictionary is created for Spanish speakers who are learning English. Its approach is unique; the same English word is defined completely in both English and Spanish in every case. Obviously, Spanish speakers can use this book to help them understand the meanings of English words by reading the definitions in their native language. However, they can also use the English definitions to help them learn other related words, and how English works. Finally, as a Spanish student, I used this dictionary to help me figure out words in Spanish I could use to express certain subtleties of meaning that I associated with English words I could think of. Unfortunately, I think I got this dictionary a little late in my Spanish learning for it to be incredibly helpful to me, since the number of words is rather limited. I'd recommend this for beginning level learners of either English or Spanish.

great for bilingual classroom

I have used this dictionary in my bilingual high school classroom for 3 years. With the traditional Spanish/English dictionary, the student must know the Spanish vocabulary to find the translation useful. This is often not the case as they encounter science and social studies vocabulary that has to be introduced as new vocabulary. The sample sentences and definitions that are presented in both Spanish and English do not assume that the student understands the word in Spanish, and thus is a true teaching tool for the high school or middle school student who is learning academic vocabulary for new academic concepts.

This dictionary truly describes what words mean in spanish instead of replacing words with others that might be misunderstood. The way this dictionary defines words is unique and I wish it had major new edition.

The most useful English-Spanish dictionary.

I have been using Diccionario Inglés for years in my ESL and bilingual classes. I also do a lot of translation as part of my work.It is a unique reference book in that it is a parallel book. One column is in English with the column next to it with the exact thing in Spanish.It has many explanations done with example sentences. Often a standard definition is not helpful. This book provides the sentences that show usage in context.Another good feature is that this dictionary is written in New World, American Spanish, the kind used by Mexicans living in Mexico and the U.S. Thus it is more reliable for Western U.S.users in that it does not get you bogged down with Peninsular or South American usage.Diccionario Inglés is designed for Spanish speakers, but I find it great for English speakers, too.
